Introducing a New Obsession

products mentioned in this post were bought by me and were NOT provided by another company*

Surprise right? Not…I collect obsessions like crazy. Yup, I don’t “go through” them, I friggen collect them. It’s very rare for me to pick up a new hobby and just drop it completely later down the road. Most times I swim in the new obsession for a while, and then set it to the side for another one to be obsessed with. But I never let go of any. Skylanders, for example. For the longest while I practically lived and breathed Skylanders, but now I just enjoy it as a normal hobby. Lol.

Other times however, I become obsessed with something and I stay that way for life. I’m talking about my addiction to nail polish, candle-making, Boxers, Hello Kitty, and the color Coral.

This time however, I’m bringing something in that I honestly never thought that this would be one of my obsessions. Ever.

I am now addicted to makeup. Not just any makeup, mind you, but bareMinerals makeup. I blame my mother. You see, for the longest time I was perfectly happy going about my makeup routine with a cheap and easy drug-store method.

  1. Almay Clear Complexion Concealer (with 1% Salicylic Acid to deal with blemishes, but conceals them too): $8
  2. Almay Liquid Eyeliner in Black $8
  3. Wet n’ Wild MegaVolume Mascara in Very Black $3
  4. Maybelline Dream Bouncy in Pink Frosting $7
  5. Maybelline Fit Me Bronzer in Medium Bronze $5

All for a total of $31.

Yes, I’m that cheap. Some concealer to hide ugly blemishes, blush, bronzer, daytime style cat-eye liner and vamp up the lashes with cheapo mascara. For a while it seemed to be working great. I’ve never had much of an issue with breakouts, and the only time I do have issues is during my period or when I’m stressed. I never used any eyeshadow because my skin is kinda oily, so the shadow would always crease and look ugly. Same goes for using foundation. Ick. But then, once upon a time, my mother decided to go to Ulta and get herself some natural makeup because she has rosacea. She’d been doing research and found that most of the time, rosacea flareups are because of the icky chemicals in your average drugstore makeup. Plus she has sensitive skin to begin with, so a lot of drugstore stuff stings her skin. Ouch. Back to the story.

So I followed along, not having the intention of actually buying any makeup. Maybe nail polish, since they had lots of that. But upon looking at the products bareMinerals had to offer…I could help but buy myself a start up supply. Oil Control Primer, foundation, blemish therapy, concealer, and of course the famous Mineral Veil. After the first time trying it all on…I was hooked. Hooked I tell you. I was suddenly mesmerized by my reflection in mirrors. My face–for the very first time ever–looked flawless. No pores to be seen. No blemishes visible at all. For the love of coral I was wearing foundation and it wasn’t looking flaky or creasing. At the end of the day there were NO oily spots on my face! I now knew and understood why girls were so in love with makeup. Because for the first time in my life, I was completely confident in myself and how I looked. But the adventure doesn’t end there. Oh no. Somehow my mother and I ended up going back to Ulta multiple times. And I kept getting more and more stuff….here’s the total lineup.

  1. Prime Time Oil Control Foundation Primer $23
  2. Blemish Therapy $18
  3. Matte SPF 15 Foundation in Medium Beige $27
  4. SPF 20 Correcting Concealer in Medium 1 (or Light…I don’t remember) $20
  5. Warmth All Over Face Color (for bronzer) $19
  6. Glee All Over Face Color (for blush) $19
  7. READY Eye Shadow 2.0 (x4) $60
  8. Prime Time Eyelid Primer-Original $18
  9. Lash Domination Volumizing Mascara $18
  10. Pur Intensity Gel Eyeliner in Carbon $17
  11. Marvelous Moxie LipLiner in Revved (and Amped) $30
  12. Mineral Veil SPF 25 $20
  13. Purely Nourishing Moisturizer for Normal/Dry skin $28
  14. Deep Cleansing Foam $20
  15. Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser $26

Which comes to a grand spanking $363…

And that’s just without taxes. Sheesh. A $332 difference. Yup. Definitely blaming my mother. But, to be fair, my skin has stopped breaking out quite as much (though I’m just now recovering from a visit from Aunt Flo, plus stress from moving out of my parents house). And I feel better, knowing that I’m taking care of my skin rather than damaging it with those icky chemicals in drug store brands. Plus, things like the Mineral Veil, Foundation, Blush, Bronzer, etc. will last a LONG time. Seriously, less is more when it comes to this stuff. I’ve had all of them for close to a month, and it still looks like I’ve hardly touched any of it. Whereas right about now I would be in need of a new bottle of liquid eyeliner. Have I mentioned how much I am in love with Gel Liner? It’s freaking amazing!!! Much easier than using liquid, less hassle than using wet shadow, and much gentler than using a pencil. And it does not come off easily (though I’m still debating whether or not this is a good thing…I’ve been having trouble getting it off at night). And the foundation, turns out my face was lighter than the rest of my body, so now it all finally matches. I couldn’t believe the difference it made…I swear I’m becoming more narcissistic every day.

I’d also like to mention how much I love the Exfoliating Treatment Cleanser….seriously, it doesn’t even feel like you’re exfoliating. That’s how gentle it is! And oh the lip liners are fabulous as well. I use it as an all over lip color and top it with some chapstick to moisten my lips a tad. ❤

So, I will be creating a new “Makeup” category and will maybe be sharing some of the looks I come up with and reviews on the different stuff. Oh, and definitely look out for more skin care product reviews. 🙂 I look forward to sharing my new obsession with you guys!

till next post, Katie
