This week, I’m taking a moment to focus on one of the more important things in my life. My lovely, sweet, cuddly little Boxer, Harli. And I encourage all of you to do the same. Because…
I got Harli when she was 8 weeks old in 2009. Since that day she has been my best, closest, most trusted friend. She has been there for me through so many hard times. From being an outcast homeschooler with no friends, going through rough breakups, loosing my job, she’s always been there for me. Even though she can’t talk, tell me it’s ok and give me a hug like a person could, somehow she manages to say more with her presence when I’m crying, the way she licks me until I laugh, and sits and lets me hold her close in times of need.
And I think that we all, at one time or another, forget that we owe our fur babies so much. No matter what happens in our lives and no matter what we do, they will always love us and at the end of a hard day they are always there waiting for us at home. I think that we take that for granted too much. Because these are the creatures that are always happy to see us, even if we lose our temper or can’t take them for long walks as often as they deserve.
So take a few moments every day just to spend time with your four legged friend. Because they will always be there for you. Even if it’s just to sit and cuddle with them on the couch before bed, or tossing the ball around the back yard for 15 minutes. They deserve our love and attention more than most humans, in my opinion.
