Review: Sally Hansen Insta-Gel Strips

I’ve had these sitting around for a little over a year now and just haven’t been able to find time to use them (and they may have gotten forgotten and buried in a pile of beauty products to try out…whooops). This is supposed to be pretty much like the normal Sally Hansen Nail Effects appliques, but with the added protection of gel polish. They sell the starter box, which has the mini UV lamp, cuticle stick, nail file, gel top coat, and color strips. After you have the starter set you can buy the color strips individually.

This is probably the quickest, easiest way to go about gel polish, as you’re essentially cutting out the process of laying down a base coat, then 2 layers of gel polish & having to cure them in between layers. All you do is carefully apply the color strips, which are so simple to apply and if you need to trim them you can easily use the cuticle stick to tear away what you need without damaging the rest of the strip. After that’s done you use the file to remove the excess strip, apply one coat of the gel top coat & cure each nail under the UV lamp (this step takes a while since you can only do one nail at a time…so it’d be a lot faster if you had a full sized lamp).

The best part? It actually wears similarly to an actual gel manicure, it’s just not as thick because there aren’t the 4 or more layers of gel polish. I’d imagine this would be a little bit better for your nails than an actual gel manicure, I guess we’ll have to see if this becomes my new go-to product for normal manicures.

Have you tried this? How did you feel it compared to normal nail strips/gel manicures? Better? Worse? Let me know in the comments below!

This is awesome! I have a few nail products just laying around that I haven’t tried because I prefer salon manicured nails (so I’m not even sure why I still buy nail products, lol) but jeez this looks like a great alternative!
