5 Things To Do When You’re Feeling Down

Sometimes life throws us curveballs. And occasionally, we miss and strike out. That’s ok though, because we all go through those times when life gets just a little too rough all at once. It can really throw you off track and have you feeling all sorts of depressing things.

All too often I’ve found myself stuck in a loop of “what’s wrong with me”, “I can’t do anything right”, “I’m a failure”, “I’m so lost”, and more recently – “I have no idea what I’m doing”.

This can really tear you apart from the inside out. Literally. So I’ve put together a small list of things that I like to do when I’m stuck in a low rut, so that maybe you’ll be inspired to try something to help yourself out of your own rut.

5 things to do when you're down

1) Spa Day

This can be as simple as taking a bubble bath to going all out and going to a day spa for the full massage, hot stones, etc.

Personally, my favorite spa days are spent at home. I take a nice relaxing bath with either bubbles or a bath bomb. Once I’m done soaking I’ll get out, towel dry and put my hair up and put on a sheet mask. This gives my hair a chance to dry more plus a good 10 to 20 minutes to just chill and read or scroll through Pinterest. Afterwards I may or may not do my nails, depending on the day.

2) Yoga and/or Meditation

I find that sometimes I just need to get a really good stretch, both in my body and in my mind. When I’m doing yoga for mental wellness reasons I try not to push myself physically too much. I try to make the positions flow smoothly and easily, so I can focus fully on the motion and my breathing.

3) Read

What better way to forget about you me worries (and perhaps realize upon returning that they aren’t that big) than to escape into another, imaginary, world? Reading stretches the mind, builds vocabulary, and is quite soothing in my opinion. I prefer to curl up on a comfy couch or chair with a blanket and coffee or tea to read, which usually means Harli will jump up and take a nap next to me.

4) Painting/Coloring/Drawing

Expressing yourself artistically can sometimes be really helpful for releasing any deep-seated emotions. Creativity can occasionally turn some of the darkest thoughts into beautiful pieces of art. Or if you’re like me and paint/build models for fun, the repetition can be soothing.

5) Have An Adventure

Other times, all you need is to actually escape. Having an adventure of your own can help shake any feelings of being stuck in a rut, or of feeling like every day is always the same. Go to a theme park or the beach, see a new movie with friends or family. Even something as simple as going on a hike or bike ride on some nature trails can help.

So there we are my lovely geeks. My 5 favorite ways to feel better when I’m feeling low. Depending on how poorly I’ve been feeling I will often combine these and do several in one day, or one once a week if it helps.

But while doing things may help you release tension and bad emotions, just remember that you also have friends and family that you could turn to. If you’re feeling really poorly, reach out to them. You may be afraid of looking weak or of being rejected. I promise they won’t bite. Go to them and trust them to be able to listen.

And, if you’re feeling darker, lower thoughts of self harm or worse. Please please PLEASE seek help. Nothing in this world is worth harming yourself over. Trust me.

Now then. I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday, and an even better rest of your week.

A Quick Update

Happy Thursday my geeks! It’s been a looong time since my last update, so I’m popping in to fill you in on what I’ve been up to the past couple of months.

Work has been busy as ever, and lately I’ve gotten into the habit of staying late to catch up on stuff (ick) which means I’ve had a LOT less time on my hands at home. In addition to this, Harli has recently had a couple of seizures, which up until now she’s never had before. This has meant a few more doctor’s visits than I like, and a hell of a lot more dark and depressing thoughts than is remotely healthy for my mental wellbeing. That being said, her recent medical concerns have put me in a little bit of a funk, which I’m just now being able to sort of deal with and crawl out of.

That being said, it’s somehow lead me to become more driven to start my candle business. I don’t really know how it came along, but I now have several coworkers interested in my candles, so I’m trying to get my sh*t together enough to actually start selling, at least on a small scale. This means I have labels (yay) and I’m working on getting social media pages set up. As of now, I’m still trying to decide what platform I want to use to start selling on (Etsy for example).

I’m excited and cautious about entering this new phase of my life, there’s kind of a lot riding on both situations…but here’s to hoping for the best and being prepared for the worst right?

You’re A Firework

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? I’ve had the unfortunate luck of running into some stress and anxiety over some stuff, causing me to lapse into a little bit of depression. So I’ve been absent, because when I feel low I can’t write. And I’ve been so tired lately it’s been a struggle just to keep up with normal life. So, in light of recent events and the upcoming holiday, this week’s QOTW is

You’re wonderful, and bright, and special. Never forget it. Do your best, try your hardest, and let the world know how loud you can be.

I’ll be posting an update soon, keep you posted. 😘

Mini Life Update

Good morning loves! It’s finally the end of the week…and it’s been a very long few weeks for me here.

So I wanted to just pop in, say hi, and let you guys know what’s been up. Because at the end of the day, I really do enjoy blogging, and I love being able to share my experiences with you guys.

At the beginning of this month, Zach and I moved into our new house. It’s a cute little cottage style house, with 3 small bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It’s small, but has an overall coziness to it. It even has a large backyard for the pups to run and play in, and for future bonfire get togethers in the cooler months. It’ll be the first house that we’ve rented that just has our names on the lease.

Geeks who’ve moved before know what a struggle it is, and how energy-depleting it can be to move. As a result, my life has basically consisted of moving belongings, unpacking said belongings, and work. It’s caused a lot of stress…..and stress eating. And the fact that we live closer than ever to a Taco Bell didn’t help my case.

So now that it’s towards the end of the month we have mostly everything settled in. And now, I’ve realized that I went from being 150/155 pounds to a whopping 160 pounds. Which in reality isn’t bad. I don’t look nor am I actually overweight. Just a little rounder and softer in some areas. Honestly it wouldn’t be such an issue except for the fact that only 2 months ago I caved and bought new bras and was able to find jeans that fit properly. Needless to say, I am at the point where almost all of my clothes are just a tad too snug for my liking.

This is where the change starts. Right now. With my blog, my business that I’m struggling to start, my health, fitness….my life. For too long have I allowed my stress and emotions control me and my life choices.

I’ve already started the process by doing some research on healthier eating strategies, and I’ve been using my resources to track my goals. So far I’ve been showing small improvements with keeping to a fairly healthy eating plan (with of course one or two treats here and there, in moderation). My main goal is to not only get to a better and healthier weight by the end of the year, but to truly start eating better and working out and taking care of my body and mind.

I won’t be posting too much of the fitness/diet stuff here, just because I feel like it generally doesn’t fit with what I’ve got going on here. So I’m planning on sharing most of my journey through Instagram, with the hashtag #kmsweightlosschallenge. Obviously it’s not all about weightloss, but it’s what inspired me to make a true change in my lifestyle. I’ll be making small updates in my monthly updates here, just to be able to go into a little bit more detail when I feel it’s needed.

T.G.I.F – 3 Ways To Spend A Friday Night

TGIF!!! It’s finally Friday fellow geeks! We’ve made it through another week of grueling work! Friday nights are probably my favorite part of the week, symbolizing the end of work and beginning of play! Here are a couple of my 3 favorite ways to spend a Friday night.

tgif

 1) Board Games & Drinks With Friends

This is probably my favorite of all three. There’s just something about getting a group of friends together to gather around the table to play some great board games while sipping on our favorite drink. We usually end up playing Pandemic, Risk, or Betrayal at House on the Hill, depending on who comes over. Every once in awhile, we get tired of losing to Pandemic or give up on another long game of Risk to swap over to a good old round of Ring of Fire. 😉

2) Video Game All-Nighter

When we aren’t feeling entirely social and don’t want to spend money going out, Zach and I will often decide to spend the night in, playing video games until the wee hours of the morning. These nights will more than likely include delivery pizza or Chinese, depending on the mood and tons of soda. We know that our bodies aren’t going to be able to do this for too much longer, so we figured that we’d better enjoy it while it lasts.

3) Movie Date & Ice Cream

Sometimes nothing beats an old fashioned date night with a movie and ice cream afterwards. We haven’t done this in a while (ok, mostly since we got our OLED TV last winter…it kind of puts the theaters to shame XD ) but when we both feel antsy and need to get out of the house, sitting down to watch a movie on the big screen (accompanied with a similarly sized popcorn because I’m addicted to movie-theater popcorn) and watching a good movie. Nothing tops off the night quite like the cherries on top of some ice cream at our local shop, conveniently placed only a short walk away from the theater….so we can walk off that popcorn and soda to make room for ice cream. 😉

What is your favorite thing to do on a Friday night? Let me know in the comments below! Have a great weekend loves!
